I know facebook and other social networking sites are good to get website traffic but i don’t know how.
Ok so i have an account on facebook, uploaded a few pics and have plastered by websites address where ever i can. Now what?
How does it actually work to get traffic?
I crossed one of the forum post with these questions, and thought to highlight how one can use Facebook to effectively put in use to promote your forums.
The first thing to do is to create Facebook Account and as is the case you need a little time to understand Facebook interface. Once your profile is created you have 3 options to continue using Facebook for promotion of your forum:
- Using your profile: You create your profile, and add the link to your forum website. You draw the traffic to the forum by way of number of contacts you have in your facebook account. Though it is highly respectable way of driving traffic, but not big enough to give you substantial traffic.
- Using Facebook groups: The second way to bring about traffic to your forums, is to create a forum group within the Facebook. Once you create a group enter the details of the group, especially its theme and details. Allow people to join on facebook group and you can grow your presence. The advantage with the above method is that the user need not be part of your contact list. You can use the facebook group discussion module to start discussions. However the pitfall with group is that you tend to loose the focus of discussions at your forum, and secondly the group is generally limited to known people and cannot have more than 5000 members.
- Using Pages at Facebook: This is the fantastic way of promoting the forum. Go to pages and create a webpage that has the same name as that of your forum. Visitors can become the fan of your facebook fan page and they can get updates about your forum. One of the other benefit I have found is its ability to integrate your RSS feed. Integrate your RSS feed of important posts of your forum into Facebook website and this way facebook users knows what is happening at your website. One of the benefit that facebook gives is to able to communicate even when your primary site is down.
My advise would be to use the facebook pages to promote your forum based website, but use the limited feature of discussions at the facebook pages.
